The importance of being metal free

 

Over the past few years has been registered an increase of pathologies such as dermatitis or eczemas, psoriasis and degenerative skin conditions to unknown aetiology that may depend on the accumulation of heavy metals in the body, caused by the notable increase of their use in all fields.

 

The heavy metals present in food,medicines, cosmetics and dental material can cause complex clinical cases, local or systemic.

There are many metals used in Odontology, combined in different alloys. Among them, Chromium (Cr), Cobalt (Co), Palladium (Pd), Nickel (Ni), Cadmium (Cd), Silver (Ag), Copper (Cu), Mercury (Hg), Platinum (Pt), Gold (Au), Titanium (Ti).

 

The metals, freed over time due to the wear of the dental prostheses alloys that the body can not physiologically eliminate due to an excess of accumulation over the years, reach the gastro-intestinal tract through the saliva. They penetrate the blood and lymphatic system via the mucosa and deposit on the tissues of organs that can be very far from the mouth cavity, generating complex symptoms, not always easy to interpret.

 

The significant increase of allergies and the always increasing presence of symptoms of incompatibility with the metals entail having to pay more attention when choosing dental materials.
